Presence - Driven

Like Moses, a man who would “speak to God face to face as a man speaks to his friend,” we ask God… “Show us your glory!    If your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here!”   (Exodus 33)

Like David, we ask for one thing… “That we may dwell in the house of the Lord… gaze upon His beauty… seek him in his temple… seeking His face.”  (Psalm 27)

Like Paul, we want to create a place where people will fall down and worship God exclaiming, “God is really among you!”

(1 Corinthians 14)

It is the great desire of God to reveal Himself in the midst of His people.

We see this from the very beginning when God would walk with Adam and Eve in the garden during the cool of the day. (Genesis 3)

Jesus promised it, when He said, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word.  My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”  (John 14)   “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them.”  (Matthew 18)

Jesus explained it, when He said, “This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God and the one you have sent – Jesus Christ.” (John 17)

Paul taught the Church in Corinth to expect God’s presence among them, reminding them that God has said,  “I will place my residence among you, and I will not reject you.  I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.”

(2 Corinthians 6  ref. Leviticus 26)

Paul taught the Church in Ephesus that God was building them together to become “God’s dwelling in the Spirit.”

(Ephesians 2)

We see this at the time when all God’s purposes are fulfilled in the new creation, when God says, “Look, God’s dwelling is with humanity, and he will live with them.  They will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them and be their God.  (Revelation 21)

It is the heart of God to live among His people wherever He gathers them together.

Our priority will be to seek the presence of God and to experience Him in tangible ways every time we gather together.
